Award Winning Short Film "Keratin" Plagiarized from "Is this loss?" cartoonist Adam Ellis
Directors Notes recently ran an article in which "Co-directors Andrew Butler and James Wilson detail[ed] the visual inspiration behind the bleak, lonely atmosphere of their isolated ritual drama 'Keratin’" which they said was "inspired by a short online cartoon". Twitter
However, the creator of said online cartoon, Adam Ellis has asserted Twitter:
This film is a fully plagiarized, shot-for-shot remake of my comic. The filmmakers didn't ask me for permission to adapt my work. They didn't even notify me they were doing so until the film had already been released and was winning awards at film festivals.
In response to this, the main actor, Jason Thorpe, said that he agreed to the project in good faith and that it is the responsibility of the producers and film company to verify copyrights. Twitter
Directors Notes has since removed their article Twitter while awaiting statement from the directors and film company.
