Although it’s never explained how Doc & Marty originally met in Back to the Future, in 2011 co-creator Bob Gale clarified that when Marty was 13 or 14 he snuck into Doc’s lab because he was intrigued by all of Hill Valley saying Doc was a dangerous lunatic. Doc liked him and gave him a job.
