What is with this annoying trend nowadays?

It's becoming increasingly more common to stop numbering sequels and instead just giving them the same exact title as the original.

The sequel to Suicide Squad is The Suicide Squad

The fourth Matrix film is being called Matrix

The fifth Scream movie is now just Scream

The Halloween sequel a few years back was called just Halloween

I mean, I kinda get it - They believe there's stronger marketing in something that feels 'new' as opposed to just the third or fourth sequel or whatever - but still. At least give it a subtitle or something.
