What movie did you start with low expectations, but turned out to be much better than expected?

When my kid was small, I took her to see the Adventures of Elmo in Grouchland. I was totally expecting some annoyingly adorable pandering tedious cutesy obnoxiousness. Instead, I got a charming romp, with funny, clever, satirical dialogue, and jokes written for the enjoyment of the parent. Mandy Patinkin's performance was a joy.
