TENET (2020) has such an obscenely cool premise, such incredible action sequences, such bland characters and dialogue, and such bizarre technical issues, that it ends up being just kind of OK

INVERSION, splitting a character's timeline through the turnstiles, the two opposing reflections that creates, recombining through the turnstiles again, the conversation held from different directions, the fight scene against yourself from different time directions, the half-inverted battle at the climax -

On paper, this film throws out wonder after wonder, proper high-concept sci-fi. Like Interstellar, those scenes are proper innovation in cinema, they'll stick with me forever.

Outside of those scenes, watching the film feels like pulling teeth. Apart from Kenneth B, the actors all have performances ranging from "amused" to "mildly inconvenienced", regardless of whether they're giving exposition or in mortal danger - and that's when you can actually hear the actors and dialogue over general background noise.

This is a Nolan film, the plot is gonna be hard enough to follow with subtitles, annotations and the wiki page afterwards, never mind trying to lipread the plot through some muffled sound filter.

I want a good version of this film. I want someone to copy the concept of inversion, one to one, and put it in a better film, because if this is all we ever get of it, it will be a true waste.
