"Hereditary" is the scariest film ive ever seen, and its not even close...

Absolutely brilliant film! It gradually builds an absolute sense of dread and absolutely crescendos over the last 25 minutes! Not only is the cinematography brilliant but the story is chilling, ambitious and takes unexpected turns. It isnt a typical horror film but it has its fair share of jump scares and there are several scenes that will genuinely stay with me for a long time, including:

  1. The scene of Annie hovering over Peter's bed but you dont see her until the light shifts. As a grown ass man, I genuinely found myself waking up at 2:00am looking for someone over my bed.
  2. Annie repetitively banging her head on the ceiling. Absolutely mental.
  3. Annie Sawing her head off with the piano wire. You can sort of tell by her expression that she is still in there somewhere but she has no control over her actions. Truly terrifying!
  4. Peter becoming possessed in the classroom and banging his head on the desk. The look he gives to the camera under possession, and the bone chilling reaction once he comes to his senses are stunning and add to the underlying dread.
  5. The lighter fluid scene where Annie admits she never wanted Peter. Absolutely soul crushing and heartbreaking and came on really fast and somewhat out of nowhere!
  6. Charlie is beheaded. Enough said, absolutely crushing from the moment it happens all the way to the funeral.

For fans of horror that love slow burning, dread building, non traditional, modern horror you will love this film!

What do you all think of Hereditary?
