Steven Spielberg turns 70 today, this should be a time to discuss his influence throughout the decades
First off, Spielberg made it past the apparently cursed age of 69 so that's good. Secondly, Spielberg has become one of the most well-known and influential directors since his summer blockbuster, Jaws, released in 1975. I don't think anyone can deny his place in film history with directing such classics as E.T., Schindler's List, Jurassic Park, Raiders of the Lost Ark, and more. Even nowadays his films are being used as a standard or comparison for other films, such as Rogue One having been said to be similar to Saving Private Ryan. He has influenced me throughout my entire life too, he's the reason I am who I am today with both a love and passion for filmmaking and dinosaurs too.
Jurassic Park is one of my favorite movies, the reveal of the Brachiosaurus is one of my favorite scenes I've ever seen. I think that scene depicts something that Spielberg does especially well, which is build-up. The slow reveal to Bruce the shark from Jaws, the mystery of the Ark, the ships of Close Encounters, the appearance of the Velociraptors are all ways Spielberg is able to perfectly build-up to great scenes, images, ideas throughout his films.
So, in celebration of Spielberg's birthday, what are your favorite techniques, scenes, characters, or films from his history?
