With the success of R rated films such as Deadpool, John Wick and Logan, there's no better time than now for a sequel to 2012's Dredd

I know this movie is popular here and and there's been a call for a sequel to Dredd since it was released (again this is 2012 Karl Urban's Dredd not Stallone's 1995 awful Judge Dredd) but now seems like a better time than ever to get a sequel especially because Karl Urban himself is 100% behind the idea. The call for a sequel isn't exactly new but a string of successful R rated films have me thinking about it again.

A lot has changed in the last 5 years. When Dredd came out it was different and fun but very rated R which led to a less than stellar box office despite very positive reviews. The excuse was largely "Rated R movies don't do well in theaters" which is kinda still true but now we've had several examples of movies that have broken the mold. The idea of a rated R bigger budget movie doing well isn't so crazy anymore and whether or not it's just a trend I really feel like this is a great time to get a Dredd 2.

So what do you think? Has the market changed enough since 2012 to allow a sequel to Dredd to thrive? Or would it be doomed to the same fate as the previous film?
