How come 28 Months Later never got made?

28 Days Later blew people away, like one of the best horror movies of the new century, never mind just the zombie genre.
As far as I know 28 Weeks Later wasn't received quite as well but still well enough.
It's not like Hollywood to abandon a franchise with name recognition unless there's a total flop. They didn't tie everything up at the end of 28Weeks, quite the opposite. Plus they like to round out trilogies when they can.
So what gives, anyone know?
