Why is Jon Bernthal not a bigger star?

Jon Bernthal stands out in almost every movie he does, he is becoming one of my favorite actors. I am always confused as to why his roles are so small. In Sicario he is a minor character, Wind river he has like 5 minutes of screen time, Baby Driver, The Accountant. He seems to be an important character in great movies yet his screen time doesn't seem to be growing.
