For an intense actor, it's weird that Christian Bale hasn't played more villains

If any at all. American Psycho wasn't really about a realistic psychopath for example. Even so, you would've thought he would've done a lot of villainous roles after that film.

Then there's Batman. A superhero of course but a dark superhero. In fact whenever he's played 'heroes' like Batman, John Connor or Moses, they're very grey heroes, not at all clear cut moral do-gooders. Yet Bale weirdly avoids villain roles it seems.

I'm sure he's had offers to play villains, he's too high profile an actor not to have done. Some of his contemporaries (and co-stars) like Tom Hardy for example are building up careers dominated by villains. Gary Oldman for years was the go to British actor for villains.
