"Ready Player One" received a standing ovation at SXSW. Here are my thoughts.
First, I would like to point out that "Ready Player One" is one of my favorite books. So, going in, I was very skeptical. I didn't think that Spielberg could turn the novel into a great film.
Boy, was I fucking wrong.
This movie was just incredible. This may not play well with critics, but this is definitely a movie MADE for moviegoers. Every 1-2 minutes, you get an Easter Egg that makes you grin.
I haven't seen this Spielberg in years. He really made me feel like a kid again. There was a technical glitch right at the climax and the sound cut out, and even then, people cheered. And when they replayed the scene and the sound was back on, the crowd went wild.
People were laughing, crying, cheering, and clapping throughout, and the nostalgic crowd who fell in love with 80's pop culture left the theater stunned.
If you love movies, support movies like this. 2.5 hours of pure joy. I don't know if this post will be deleted, but I don't care. I wanted to let people on Reddit know that this film is pure Spielberg, and pure fun.
