What do you consider to be an "important" movie?

There seems to be a divide between a great film and an important one. The Passion of the Christ may be important, but it's greatness is questionable. Schindler's List is both. The Dark Knight is great, but not important. What are other movies you consider to be important and why do you think them to be so?
