I really wish YouTube would clamp down on fake movie trailers.

At least make it clear the trailer is fan-made with a big red circle highlighting it or something. At the time of making this post, there's:

  • a Joker (Joaquin Phoenix) trailer with 2.8m views.

  • a Friends movie trailer with 14m(!) views.

  • a Captain Marvel teaser trailer from 4 months ago with 8.4m views.

They're all fake. I know it's not a big issue, but it's pretty annoying when you expect to see an official trailer only for it to obviously be fake. Sometimes you don't even have to watch - a Captain Marvel teaser trailer from 4 months ago? Obviously fake. If you've followed the movie's production, you know it's unlikely.

Is it a cheap way to earn money? I don't know how YouTube ad revenue works. Some of these trailers are from verified accounts, whatever that means.
