Good lord, how are the special effects for “Starship Troopers” still out of this world?

Currently watching “Starship Troopers” in 4K, and I expected with not having seen it in awhile as well as the uptick in resolution, that the special effects wouldn’t hold up.

Boy, was I wrong.

The CGI for the bugs mixed with the practical gore and sets are damn near flawless. Add to the equation that most of the film’s action takes place during the daylight - yes, the Klendathu battle is during the night, but even then they don’t use the shadows as a crutch. If anything, they still light it up in blue moonlight so you can see everything.

All around, the FX are magical and immersive, and only add to an amazing film. The satire, the over-the-top acting, the set pieces, and THAT Basil Poledouris score.

“You trying to be a hero, Watkins?!” “Just trying to kill some bugs, sir!!!!!”

They don’t make ‘em like they used to.
