Netflix Klaus (2019) is a sweet and uplifting Christmas movie and one of my favorites of the year.

I honestly can't imagine anyone watching this and not liking it. If this gets any more attention and captures the general societal zeitgeist we might be looking at a future Christmas classic. It's honestly so well crafted and animated.

Apparently this was hand drawn animation, only with computer animated light to make it more special and realistic, and it looks so unique and captivating. It is essentially a Santa Claus origin story, and it works perfectly well as that but Klaus isn't the movies main character. This is still the journey of Jesper and it works.

There are a lot of cool visual gags and some funny lines (especially around the first thirty minutes) but the backbone of the movie is its uplifting storyline. The scene where Jesper & Klaus build the sled for the little girl is incredibly touching and emotional. It also has a wonderful climax in which Jesper choses the life in this small town over the big wide world and everything comes together in satisfying fashion (Alva, the Ellingboe / Krum clan rivalry, Klaus' backstory).

A selfless act always inspires another one. It's essentially a movie about happiness and kindness.

I highly encourage everyone to watch this as it probably is one of my favorites of the year and an absolutely great Christmas movie!
