Now that Joker is getting Oscar buzz, please don't sleep on Joaquin Phoenix in "You Were Never Really Here"

It's a thematically very similar film, with Phoenix playing a similar character, but goes into a completely different direction with it. It's much harder to digest and not as immediately gratifying as Joker is, but Phoenix is heartbreakingly good in it and should have gotten an Oscar for it 2 years ago (at least he did get Best Actor at Cannes). Jonny Greenwood's score is also beautiful.

It's not for everyone but probably my favourite film of the last 10 years. To me Joker is more of a black comedy that deliberately goes to 11, but if you are interested in a more subdued and thoughtful examination of similar themes with another fantastic Phoenix performance, then please go see this movie.
