Why I can't stand the Fast and Furious franchise: From the glorification of criminals to the hypocrisy of them reminding us they're a family every five minutes

They're such a family that they had no problem embracing Shaw after he killed Han. I mean, the hypocrisy of the characters drives me insane. They're not even a family, just a group of friends who committed crimes. Diesel's character dumped his pregnant girlfriend over a former flame but let's see Dom talk about family like he even knows what that word means.

I feel the series lost its core being when it became a wholesome franchise where it became less about anti-heroes and more about cool race car drivers fighting the good fight while still being outsiders and Vin Diesel feeling his oats and still getting to be a bad ass action star at 50. It's annoying.

I was pissed at how the OG females: Michelle Rodriguez and Jordana Brewster got sidelined. Rodriguez came back but she still never rose from being the token female in the group. If anything, both Letty and especially Mia were solely defined by the men.

No wonder Rodriguez threatened to leave (and judging by the latest teaser, this might be her last one) because what was the point of bringing back Letty if her part has been so minimized in favor of the Rock.

And it's not just the women. Tyrese's character from 2 Fast 2 Furious has turned into a such a clown that it bears no relation to how it used to be. It seems like this series seems to only see black men as comic relief so it's no accident both he and Ludacris o nly exist to be the token losers in the group.

And Charlize Theron's forgettable villain shows F&F only seems to see women as pieces of meat or shrews. There's no in between.
