Will Smith's movies where he ALMOST starred is way more compelling than his actual filmography.

Django Unchained (2012) - Common knowledge. Apparently Tarantino wrote it for Will Smith and he was interested but he had some issues with Quentin's creative direction. I would have loved to see him in a Tarantino movie but I can't really see him as a silent cowboy that Jamie was, and I understand why he turned it down.

A Star Is Born - Way back in the day like in the early 2000's, Joel Schumacher was circling him and Jennifer Lopez for the leads. I remember reading that the roles were reversed. Jennifer Lopez was going to be the seasoned singer and Will Smith was the star. I think that would have been interesting but I can't imagine it being any better than the movie we ended up seeing.

Snake Eyes (1998) - In Brian De Palma's Snake Eyes, Will was originally written to play Commander Dunne alongside Nicolas Cage and personally, I would have loved to see this. It would have been Will Smith's first villain role and it would have added a lot shock value at the reveal. Seeing him as a corrupt general would have been a great move for his career and is a shame he turned it down over a salary dispute.

Shaft (2000) - John Singleton intended Will Smith as John Shaft II with Lauryn Hill who had just won six grammies. I would have liked to see that because it would be a departure into a more edgier role as Shaft is a pretty rough character. I would have liked to see him and John Singleton work together.

Inception (2010) - Will Smith was considered with Brad Pitt to play Cobb with Leo. It goes to show how much confidence WB had in Nolan if Smith was the back-up if Leonardo DiCaprio turned it down. I can't see Will in it personally.

The Accountant (2016) - Mel Gibson was attached to direct at one point with a huge interest in Will Smith starring in the main role. It's an interesting role for Smith considering the subject matter of the script and there's no doubt it would be any less than excellent if Mel Gibson directed him. Funny enough, Mel Gibson was interested in doing Suicide Squad 2 just for the prospect of working with Smith.

Triple Frontier (2019) - The original iteration script was originally different and was going to be directed by Kathryn Bigelow. Smith was reportedly very interested and was supposed to star alongside Christian Bale and Sean Penn. I believe he was going to play a version of the Pope role which was played by Oscar Isaac later.

Phone Booth (2002) - Will Smith was offered to play Stu in Phone Booth but turned it down because he didn't find the villain's motivation that all compelling.

Batman Forever (1995) - Another Joel Schumacher project he was attached to. He said he was in the running on Jay Leno. Imagine Robin looking like he can kick Val Kilmer's Batman's ass.

Oldboy (2013) - Him and Spielberg were developing a remake of Oldboy which was supposed to specifically draw from the graphic novel with Mark Protosevich writing. When Spielberg left the director's chair, Will left as well.

The Matrix (1999) - Speaking of Val Kilmer and Will Smith, Will Smith was offered to be Neo and Matrix with the intention of Val Kilmer being Morpheus. Out of all these movies, Will Smith regrets turning this one down the most. He turned it down because he didn't understand what the concept was in the pitch meeting and wasn't completely confident the Wachowskis since they only made Bound before that, one feature prior.
