Fantastic Mr. Fox is one of the best book-to-movie adaptations I've ever seen.

POTENTIAL SPOILERS - Firstly, the soundtrack and cast are amazing. But in terms of the adaptation... It does what I usually hate about adaptations - it does not stay loyal to the source material. But in this case, Wes Anderson has added his personal flavour to a simple children's story by giving added backstory and dimension to the characters, such as the rivalry between the cousins, or the history of Mr. and Mrs. Fox. In terms of the backstory of the Fox spouses, it's almost as if Anderson truly understood the relationship between the two which Dahl intended with his limited examination of them in the book, and amplified it with dialogue soaking in chemistry and heartfelt moments. The comedy was also subtle but effective. And in the book Mr. Fox suggests that they are not bad animals, because it's not as if they're trying to kill humans. Just eat their food. But the climactic battle seems to springboard from that dialogue from the book, showing that Mr. Fox can be pushed to wage war when one of his family is kidnapped. I was blown away by this movie. Anyone else?
