Why did no one tell Keanu Reeves his acting was bad while filming Dracula (1992)

Why didn't the director tell Keanu Reeves his acting was bad while filming Dracula and give him a better direction or advice? I always wondered when filming, does the director or anyone not notice the bad acting? I have seen directors watching the scenes right at the moment when they are filming, so they must notice it or just don't care. I understand if its a low budget movie but Dracula (1992) is a well-made big-budget movie.
