Opinion: Critics have to stop saying (almost) every new Pixar movie is a “return to form for Pixar!”

I was reading a number of reviews on Rotten Tomatoes for Soul, and it’s tiring how hyperbolic some reviewers are in making it seem that almost every new Pixar movie has that special Pixar magic, “a return to form”, the “best Pixar movie in years”. . . Like seriously! They say that with almost everything! Toy Story 4 came out a year and a half ago—and regardless of what Reddit or the general audiences think of it—it still got glowing reviews and is the best critically reviewed Pixar movie since Inside Out; Coco on the other hand also got fantastic reviews and is actually better reviewed than any Disney Animated movie (excluding TS3, TS4, Inside Out) in the past decade. Even Finding Dory and Incredibles 2 (which a huge number of reviewers actually liked it as much as the first or more) got pretty good reviews as well. Like we get it, Soul is great. But it’s not a return to form when many have been saying this since 2015 with Inside Out? Any thoughts?
