Considered to be one of the greatest hand drawn anime films ever made Hayao Miyazaki's The Castle of Cagliostro (1979) is currently streaming on Netflix and worth the time (1:42) of any fan of anime and/or high adventure films.

This was the transitional film that moved Hayao Miyazaki from working mostly on TV anime projects (including the original Lupin the 3rd series which inspired this film) to his greater success as a feature filmmaker. Hailed by Spielberg as one of the greatest adventure films ever made, its influence on both live action and animated films is well documented from Raiders of the Lost Ark to such Disney projects as The Great Mouse Detective and Atlantis: The Lost Empire.

The story opens with Arsène Lupin III (descended from the legendary master thief) and his friend Jigen Daisuke on the run from a casino robbery only to discover their massive haul consists of forged bills. Intending to even the score by tracking down the source of bills the pair travels to the Grand Duchy of Cagliostro where they become mixed up in a plot by Count Cagliostro to take over the country via a forced arranged wedding with the young Princess Clarisse in order to finally gain access to the country's greatest treasure.
