The Count of Monte Cristo (2002)
Just watched this for the first time last night. Highly recommend.
First off, I'm not interested in any comparisons to the book as we all know how this always goes.
Secondly, I do think a large chunk of the films success lies in the great base material. It is just a great story (that, yes, does depart from the book quite significantly).
I'm posting this as I feel like this has gone largely forgotten since it's release but has really stood the test of time. Now 20 years!
It was well made, didn't take itself too seriously and was just an enjoyable adventure to follow.
