Judy Parfitt in "Dolores Claiborne" is one of those electrifying performances which have you wonder why it didn't get more notice
Dolores Claiborne is arguably the best film Kathy Bates did after Misery and I'm shocked this movie didn't receive as much attention as Misery. But I'm glad it has a cult following. Well deserved.
Now, one performance that stands out, above Bates or Jennifer Jason Leigh, is Judy Parfitt as Vera Donovan, Dolores' employer, a cruel and vicious woman who even at her most understanding, displays a stealth roughness. Every scene she's in, she dominates your attention. She's that good.
