Texas Chainsaw Massacre 2 is absolutely ridiculous but still entertaining

When it comes to atmosphere in horror movies, I contend that the original 1974 Texas Chainsaw Massacre has some of the best in any movie. I love the realistic & raw atheistic Tobe Hooper presented that made the movie such a horror classic.

Texas Chainsaw Massacre 2 goes in a completely different direction. While the first movie felt real, this movie amps up the craziness to a new level. That point is made right away with the opening scene where Leatherface holds a corpse while terrorizing two men driving a car while Oingo Boingo plays in the background. You have Chop Top, wonderfully played by Bill Moseley, a crazy sicko who scratches the metal plate in his head with a coat hanger. There's also Lt. Lefty Enright played by Dennis Hopper who is off his rocker in his own right. He even has a chainsaw duel with Leatherface.

It feels like Tobe Hooper knew making a sequel to Texas Chainsaw Massacre was a ridiculous idea so he decided to go all out and make a black comedy horror movie instead. Is it as good as the original? No, but it was entertaining and indeed earns its cult status.

Plus, Drayton Sawyer was making chili with human meat before Eric Cartman!
