What is the saddest death in a comedy movie?

I'm watching Tommy Boy again, and I am always struck by how sad it gets for a minute.

Are there other comedies that have a sudden, tragic turn that don't derail the whole movie?

I love how it recovers so quickly and returns to being ridiculous without ever feeling incongruent. Tommy and Richard on the road is up there with some of the all-time comedy duos.
