CGI explosions, gunshots and fires are ruining movies for me

Ruining may be a strong word, but im watching Guy Ritchie's The Covenant and its just the latest example of how a movie can look so great, and then obviously CGI'd explosions and smoke immediately make it feel cheap and direct-to-dvd.

This goes for muzzle flash on guns as well...there is just something so flaccid and benign about it that takes me out of the moment.

This is especially evident when you compare it to the gasoline-fueled , practical-model destroying explosions that made 80s and 90s action movies so enjoyable. You can just TELL when something is actually blown up. I get that it's a cost, convenience thing...im just saying....bring back practical explosions.
