I can't decide if "Catch Me if You Can" is better or worse knowing what I now know about Frank Abagnale Jr.

So, I read a year or so ago that the movie "Catch Me if You Can" is based on a lie. As in, Frank A. Did none of the stuff the movie claims and made ALL of it up. That said, I rewatched the movie today and can't decide if it makes the film seem pointless, or somehow increases the charm knowing his last con was a fucking movie about his life that was all a lie. I'm leaning towards the latter.
