Mission Impossible 7 is the first well received blockbuster I've seen that practically disappeared from the zeitgeist only a week after its release.

Normally, if a movie is good but doesnt have a strong opening weekend, it can leg out in the following weeks and still do well through word of mouth and positive scores. However with Barbenheimer and Sound of Freedom, it feels like Mission Impossible went away as quickly as it came. Barely anyone seems to be talking about it, no premium screens are showing it and it's box office is steeply declining.

All of this would have been expected if it was a bad movie from a dying franchise, but the last three MIs have been increasingly successful and Cruise got a major publicity bump from Top Gun. Its just really really bad timing. Considering how tough it was to get this movie in the first place with the constant shutdowns (and meltdowns) it just seems like a really unlucky movie. Either way this has to be one of the most fascinating moviegoing months in movie history.
