What are your favourite female lead performances that doesn't center around romance?

While there sure are many, a lot of movies with female leads center around romance/sexuality. What are your favourite performances by a female lead that doesn't?

I personally love Francis Mcdormand in Fargo. Strong performance, that isn't tied up to meeting and marrying some guy, or falling in love. Jodie Foster in the Silence of the lambs is another. What are your favourites?
