Which film death had all the hallmarks of an emotional gut punch but just fell flat for you?

Plenty of characters die in films but sometimes it supposed to pack an emotional punch. Are there any film deaths where it was clearly supposed to be a big moment for the audience but somehow just didn’t work?

For me it’s Gilgamesh in The Eternals. He was my favourite character and had been presented as a loyal, fierce, caring member. When the group were on the verge of splitting apart he managed to bring them together. Up until the point at which the group are attacked and he’s killed.

I get what they were intending but he was 1 of about 15 new characters that were introduced in a 2 hour film. So yeah, it sucked that he died but it was only an hour in to the story so it was just kind of…there. If it’d been episode 5 of a 6 episode Disney+ show I feel like it would have worked much better.

What are your examples?
