The way this works is that you post a review of the best film you saw last week. It doesn't have to be a new release, just any film you have seen over the last seven days that you feel is worth talking about. Here are some rules.
1. Check to see if your favourite film of last week has been posted already. If so, please reply to that comment instead of making a new thread.
2. Please post your favourite film of last week.
3. NO TV SHOWS!
4. ALWAYS use spoiler tags. Report any comments that spoil recent / little-known films without using the spoiler tag.
5. Comments that only contain the title of the film will be removed!
Here are a few great comments from last week's thread:
-
Arrival - I'm trying to wait for the hype to die down from my first viewing, but this might easily make it into my top 10 favorite movies of all time. The story was incredibly smart. I loved the way they presented tensions around the world happening due to the arrival of the craft, I especially loved the detailed explanations they gave as to how the aliens and humans were communicating with each other. The acting was amazing, everyone involved gave their all. The characters felt real, and the movie perfectly captured how various world powers and civilians react to large scale world events. Forest Whitaker, Holy Shit, i completely forgot it was him for a second. The movie is also great from an aesthetic level. The CGI was amazing, and the design of the aliens was interesting. It will be absolutely criminal if this movie doesn't win an Oscar for SOMETHING.

Mulholland Drive - I was looking for some Criterion movies to buy from the Barnes and Noble sale, and this was one of the movies recommended to me (Thanks Reddit!). This was my first David Lynch film. The movie reminded me of Persona mixed with a Haruki Murakami novel. It's not The Holy Mountain weird, but it's pretty surreal. The individual scenes instead of the overarching plot stood out to me. The most memorable were the audition, the theatre, and the humorous pitman scene. I thought it was really interesting and weird that there were so many subplots with little connection to the main plot and they all somehow connect in the end. There were many great performances, especially Naomi Watts. This movie could have been pretentious with its storytelling, but it emphasizes emotion and mood. This movie is definitely not for everyone not into surrealism or art house films.

Downfall - A very different look at the fall of Nazi Germany. Its a longer film at nearly 3 hours but was gripping thanks to the great performances, surreal scenes and the educational value that came from it being based off of real accounts. Reflecting on it I cant help but feel that the rise and fall of the Nazi Reich would've made great fiction had it never happened. You see many key members of the Nazi high command in this film and at points it almost feels like you're observing members of a cult who despite being on the brink of defeat hold onto the belief that they were justified. If you're feeling like a sobering look at the life of Hitler in the final days of his life give this one a watch.

Have fun and play nice!
And my apologies that this is being posted so late, I know some of you PMed me asking for this thread to be posted earlier. I've been too busy catching up on my celebrity gossip.
