What film conventions were really popular but now are kinda... cheesy?

One of the things that come to mind are freeze frames. There was a time during the 80's where so many movies ended in freeze frames: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ciBN0gGBjy8

I'm sure there's a ton of other technical tropes that became outdated, but I'm having trouble recalling any others.
