In Christmas movies where Santa Claus does exist, how can adults not believe in Santa if gifts are appearing under the Christmas tree every year?

In movies like The Santa Clause, Elf, Miracle on 34th Street, etc. where it's established that Santa Claus does exist, there are always skeptic adults that don't believe in him. How can anyone NOT believe in Santa in those realities if every year there are gifts appearing under the Christmas tree? I'd love to hear your theories on why this is or if there's an xmas movie that actually addresses this.
