MONEYBALL is a prime example of great acting, screenwriting, cinematography, and filmmaking in general. Always rewarding to revisit.

In my opinion, there is really nothing in the movie Moneyball that isn’t handled flawlessly. The true story of this Oakland As season of baseball was interesting enough before Aaron Sorkin got his hands on it. But the direction and presentation of it is just a blast to watch. It’s a great sports film. It’s a great business film. It’s the whole package.

The level of storytelling in this movie is top notch. Each performance knocks it out of the park and is phenomenally cast. I love the contrast of the man Billy Beane against the empire, really, that is major league sports and how this is presented via the cinematography. The film has an air of calm tension over the whole runtime. It’s a multimillion dollar game of chess and strategy, and you kind of hang in there with the stakes. There are scenes I still, even upon reviewing, feel sick to my stomach waiting for the next event because it’s displayed so perfectly. The fantastic and somewhat minimal score coupled with the occasional “sports radio” kind of narration really help to drive it home. Even down to the cheesy song, the sound mixing of crowds, and bats cracking, etc.: I could go on but honestly theres not a single thing about it I don’t have sincere admiration for.

I know it was well received when it released but it’s definitely worth revisiting. I know I have a tendency to forget about it from time to time which is a tremendous disservice to everyone involved. Where does Moneyball sit with you?
