Black Panther has a whacked out plan for leadership succession

It's weird to me that the world's model society selects its leader by a fight to the death and turns over to the strongest fighter absolute power and control over the entire country, its people and its technology with no apparent checks or balances such as would be found by an independent legislature and judiciary.

Let's discuss whether this plan for leadership succession is as flawed as it might appear.
