Hellyboy 2 Special Effects. They created a giant hand and oversize golden egg JUST for this 3 second extreme closeup shot

The scene in Hellboy 2 where Prince Nuada opens the metallic egg and releases the Forest Element creature was staged very precisely. Special effect crews created a giant matching hand and an oversized golden egg which was then opened in an extreme foreground shot. The actor playing Nuada, Luke Goss, simply had to stand in frame on his mark and the crew did the rest. In the top pic, you can see what was in the movie, with Luke Goss being blurred out by depth of field (either in camera or in post). The pics below show the awesome scale of the prop arm, the hand and mechanical egg. An expensive production for what amounted to a couple seconds in the film. Gotta admire Guillermo's imagination and all his creatures in his films.
