I recently saw the film, "Mother!", and personally, I thought it was amazing.
I understand that a lot of people dislike this film and I can understand why. The movie is an extremely unpleasant, insane and unforgiving experience. A cynical chaos. But honestly, that's what I really love about it. This film is pretty much about the ugliness of humanity and how we destroy the environment. A process that will not only destroy our world but also destroy all of us and the movie is very appropiately grim in its portrayal. Such thing is a very serious matter, especially now with the global warming that will cause the extinction of all of us. It's a melodramatic, enfuriating and unpleasant but powerful story of environmentalism and a great use of mythology to deliver its message. It's not exactly subtle but it doesn't need to be in this case and it should not always be the goal for a film. It's more of a tool rather than a goal. Subtlety is definitely still important but I personally believe that a film doesn't require that to be amazing. It's one of the most intente movies I've even seen and I fucking love it. Also, this is easily Jennifer Lawrence's best performance (which was fantastic and I usually don't find her all that special.) and Javier Bardem was very amazing too. For me, the best movie out the many I saw these 2 days and I did see plenty of them. This is my favorite Darren Anorofsky film ever and I say this as someone who really loved Requiem For A Dream.
Anyways, yeah. I thought it was pretty fantastic. People may disagree with me but honestly, I do not care and that will not change my opinion and my love for the film.
