Spielberg’s films age so well. 70s - Duel, Jaws, 80s - Indy and ET, 90s - Hook, Jurassic Park and Schindler’s List, 00s - Minority Report and War of the Worlds.

There’s something about the aesthetic of a Spielberg film. It’s almost like they aren’t a product of their time - so many films are dated horribly..

No one else seems to be able to recreate it. Watching Jurassic World, it just felt so hollow and lifeless.. there seems to be a tangible “thing” that Spielberg brings to the table that other directors just don’t have.

I’m watching ET right now, it doesn’t feel like an 80s movie. It’s steeped in atmosphere, it looks beautiful -so many movies made in the 80s look horrible now, why does this still look so great?

Cinematography, lighting, sure they help, and I know that most movies now are shot on digital and that really affects the aesthetic.. but I’ve watched movies shot on film made recently that still don’t “feel” the same.. I can’t put my finger on it...
