Leaving Las Vegas

First time seeing this after hearing it’s depressing and hard to watch my entire life but, Goddamnit I love this movie. I can’t tell you all how nice it is to see such an accurate portrayal of alcoholism and romantic codependency. What a beautifully wonderful character study of humanity’s spectrum of vulnerability under a microscopic lens, rose-color free. The glamorous highs almost never dry-eyed, and the pit of despair rock-bottoms pulling no emotional gut punches all the while painting the sober onlookers as both blessed beyond their comprehension and boring as eggshell white paint, drying. Written for the screen, scored and directed by Mike Figgis, I can only compare its tragic loveliness to Heaven Knows What. Fuck.
