Tokyo Drift is a surprisingly beautiful, charming standalone movie

I rewatched it for the first time in a long time because it popped up on Peacock and I'd totally forgotten how enjoyable and visually appealing it was. It just surprised me how beautiful this movie looked for it's age. The racing scenes were captured from different perspectives in creative ways which made it not feel repetitive and formulaic. They did a great job capturing the vibe of the city and villages in contrast to the obnoxious cars. The music is a time capsule of when the movie came out but fit so well with the movie. And finally Sung Kang is just unbelievably cool. Overall I think this movie as a standalone beats any of the other movies in the franchise.
