Pointless observation: The Lion King could be set at any point in the past 5,000 years.

Assuming that their English isn’t meant to be representative of parallel human communication, there’s no reason the story couldn’t be set in any year since all of the animals evolved into their current state. This isn’t some weird theory or (ugh this buzzword) “headcannon,” and it absolutely doesn’t matter what year the movie is set in. But since we don’t see any sign of humanity, there’s no way of knowing when it’s set.
