The director explains the movie or he leaves it to interpretation : which way you prefer ?

I was listening to Total Recall’s commentary with Paul Verhoeven and every time he was commenting on a scene, he was giving two interpretation, one with the dream interpretation and one with reality interpretation

And it reminded me of Ridley Scott for the 25th Anniversary of the release of Blade Runner and his director cut. It was an interview and at one point, the journalist ask a straight forward question on the ending and Ridley flat out gives a definite answer leaving nothing to interpretation or imagination for the viewers.

And even if was agreeing with Ridley’s answer at the question on Deckard, it couldn’t help but be infuriated by the fact that he answered it. Leaving nothing to talk about, debate or anything for the people who had a different answer about Deckard identity

I’m team Verhoeven, you should live to interpretation. I don’t like definitive answer on movies by the director

What do you prefer more ? A clear answer or leaving things to interpretation ?
