What are some genres that are dead or dying out that we just won't see anymore and why?

So over the decades genres have become really popular and then faded out. Sometimes they come back and sometimes audiences are not interested anymore.

I am not talking silent films, but the general theme of movies that were once popular but have now lost interest among audiences.

For example, in the 1970s the whole air plane disaster movie was quite big. Beautifully satirized by the phenomenal comedy "Airplane". The typical movie was about some sort of incident or disaster on an airline where the crew and passengers had to overcome to survive. But after 9-11, and even before with the number of hi-jackings, this fell out of favor with audiences also due to the trauma of real such catastrophes (the Canary Islands is an example in the late 70's). 9-11 sealed the fate.

What other genres have died or a slipping fast and why?
