What movie has a surprisingly strong female lead?

Watching The Money Pit (1984) with Shelly Long for about the tenth time. All the characters are great but I really love what a tough cracker and how three dimensional Long’s character is from start to finish. Outside of the couple’s… unattractive moments, she’s smart, talented, witty, confident, funny, sweet, independent… just delightful. What movies can you think of that depict an everyday woman (like not a superhero) who is as well written and well performed?
