Which movie starts normally enough but gradually descends into a world of strange and unbelievable things?

Was watching Kubrick's Eyes Wide Shut, and thinking about the mystery at the heart of the movie and what I consider is an unsatisfying ending because the mystery is not really resolved and we're basically told to try to forget it even exists. So I started to imagine various possible explanations for it and the also imagined various ways the movie could have ended. Like it could have just piled on the mystery even more, go into some extremes and become more and more puzzling and unbelievable. If so, then the movie, which starts out normally enough, with a couple leaving their homes to go to a party, would be gradually get weirder and crazier. I thought that would be one cool variation.

And there are movies that do that. Do you know of any that do that very well, off the top of your mind? With a normal beginning and a descend into craziness and things becoming more and more weird and unbelievable?
