Why is Wallace Beery never mentioned?

I just heard of him today when watching Boardwalk Empire and I then read that he was the highest paid actor in the world in the early 1930’s. I am familiar with the other big actors from the 30’s so I’m wondering why I never even heard his name before. Is there any particular reason he’s never discussed? I’m thinking maybe none of his films stood the test of time or maybe he is well known and I’ve somehow just never heard of him.
