I absolutely adore and love the whole aesthetic & mood of late 90s/early 2000s thrillers

I’ve been binging these types of movies recently… Ransom, Copycat, Mindhunters, the Bone Collector, 8MM, Kiss the Girls, Seven, Along Came a Spider, etc

Something about these 10 or so years of thriller movies is just something else. Had that great combination of talent, technique and gritty tone. I like that they took themselves pretty seriously too. No quippy humour, serious performances, good tension. Even the mid-tier movies of that era, like Breakdown, are worth a watch. Also this genre hadn’t become mired in needless and dumb plot twists, the stories were fairly straightforward and the twists that were there weren’t annoying twists.
