Where's J. J. Abrams?

Watching Alias fo the first time i started thinking about Abrams.

From the mid 2000s through the 2010s he was one of the most hyped up rising Hollywood directors.

From 2006-2015 he did a film every 2-3 years. After Force Awakens, which should have shot him up, he then didn't seem attached to another film until Lucasfilm needed him back for Star Wars IX.

He was also realy prolific on TV of course. From 1998-2013 he Created, supervised and directed Felicity > Alias > Lost > Fringe. Right now, he only seems to be involved as a producer in a few shows.

It kind of reminds me o Joss Whedon. He was hyped up for years by genre tv fans and then got his break with The Avengers. Even shot a low budgeted film at his house that same year. Then after Avengers 2.... poof. Though Whedon of course had a whole can of controversies.

The only controversy of Abrams i know of is the backlash against IX and a lot of people being frustrated by his mystery box aproach. Nothing cancelable like with Whedon. Abrams seems to be very good with people.

While i wasn't a big fan of his Star Wars films, i feel like it's a bit of a waste. While Super 8 is criticized for being too Spielbergy, it felt personal to him. Was actualy hoping he would make more films like that, instead of being constantly tied to franchises. While he's slamed for not making very original films, he does have a realy strong track record of quality original tv shows.
